Biomedical Engineering Technology
Diploma CourseEntry Requirement
This is a two (2) year Course. Applicants wishing to apply must have senior secondary school certificate (SSCE) or its equivalent, WAEC, GCE, NECO, NABTEC) with passes at credit level in Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, Biology and at least a pass in English Language at not more than two sitting. In addition, credit or ordinary pass in any of the following subjects will be an advantage. Wood work, metal work sheet, Auto Mechanics, Basic Electronics, Basic Electricity and Technical Drawing.
Certificate Course
This is a one (1) year course.
Candidates with the following qualification are eligible for admission.
a) Candidates who have passed WASC/SSCE in Science subjects with credit passes.
b) Intermediate Secondary School with Trade Test Grade (II) Certificate and evidence of Secondary Education in the Science.
Entrance Examination and Interview
Candidates who have the basic entry qualification will be required to sit for an entrance examination. Those successful at the entrance examination will attend selection interview thereafter. Candidates with evidence of guaranteed sponsorship will be given preference.
The course at present is non residential. Successful candidates will be required to arrange for their own accommodation.
Procedure for Registration:
Registration and documentation are compulsory for every new and returning student at the beginning of each semester/session.
All registration involves obtaining and completing relevant forms, payment of necessary fees and registering courses.

Note: Each new student on arrival, report to the registration officer with the following documents for verification:
a. Letter of offer of admission
b. A copy of acceptance letter
c. A Letter of identification from the student’s local government Area
d. A Letter of good conduct from an Imam, Clergyman or eminent personality from society
e. Six recent Passport sized photographs
f. A Medical report from a government hospital
g. Original copies of certificate or notification of result (Statement of Result)
h. Original Birth Certificate/Declaration of age
i. Submission of Stationeries.
At the beginning of every academic session, each Student of the School is expected to pay his or her School fees and monies as may be required by the School of Biomedical Engineering Technology, ABU Teaching Hospital, Zaria. This must be done online before a student is registered.
Student on Government Parastatals, Local Government, or Ministry’s Sponsorship are not exempted from the rule. It is expected that the students should report to the School on resumption date and obtain necessary information in readiness for commencement of lectures.
Normal Registration
All students are required to register on admission and at the beginning of each Semester. Students must register for their respective programme in person within Two Weeks of the start of the Semester.
A student is regarded as having registered on the date he completes the registration formalities which include paying the prescribed fees and other charges, filling the registration forms Online and Print the Course Registration submitting same to the registration officer.
Late Registration
All students are required to register within the first Two Weeks of each Semester. Any registration which is not completed within the normal period shall be regarded as late registration and shall be subjected to extra charges as prescribed by the School’s Management.
Any students who fail to register for his/her courses before the closing date of registration shall not be allowed to attend classes or be allowed to sit for the Semester Examination. Such a student’s shall be deemed to have voluntarily withdrawn from the school and may only be re-admitted in any subsequent session or Semester with the approval of the Coordinator and the School Education Committee.
Accommodation
Accommodation provided by the school is not merely a place to sleep in, but is a home for many students for most of the year.
Accommodation in the school is a privilege and not a right. Only bonafide and registered students of the school are eligible to apply for accommodation.
Accommodation provided by the school is located in Tudun-Wada Unit of the hospital and is on a first come first serve basis, after the payment of N5000.00 (Five Thousand Naira Only), this is subject to change. The Accommodation is Online.
Health Information Management
Programmes:National Diploma (ND)
Pre- Higher National Diploma (PRE-HND)
Higher National Diploma (HND)
National Diploma
National Diploma in Health Information Management is a program designed to provide candidates with the knowledge of skill, to assist in planning collating, organizing disseminating, monitoring and managing vital health information required at the local, state and federal levels in order to ensure effective and comprehensive national health care delivery. The duration of the National Diploma program shall be two academic sessions of four semesters including supervised clinical work experience.Entry Requirements:
Five Credits including English, Mathematics, Biology, Physic or Chemistry and any other 1 subject in not more than 2 sittings.Pre-Higher National Diploma
The Pre-Higher National Diploma Programme in Health Information Management is a Programme designed to provide candidates with Health Records Technician Certificates, or (HIT Certificate) with a prerequisites to undergo a Higher National Diploma (HND) Programme in Health information Management. The duration of the Pre-Higher National Diploma program shall be one academic session.Entry Requirements:
- Five Credits including English, Mathematics, Biology, Physic or Chemistry and any other 1 subject in not more than 2 sittings.
ii. Health Records Technician Certificate with a minimum of Lower Credit.
Higher National Diploma
Higher National Diploma in Health Information Management is a program designed to provide candidates with the knowledge and skills to assist in planning, collating, organizing, disseminating, monitoring and managing vital Health Information required at the Local, State and Federal levels in order to ensure effective and comprehensive National Health Care Delivery. The duration of the Higher National Diploma program shall be two academic sessions of four semesters including supervised clinical work experience.Entry Requirements:
- Five Credits including English, Mathematics, Biology, Physic or Chemistry and any other 1 subjects in not more than 1 sittings.
ii. National Diploma Certificates in Health Information Management with a
minimum of Lower Credit.
iii. Evidence of compulsory Industrial Training (IT) or attachment in a reputable Health Institution.
Please note that:
i) Pregnancy is not allowed during training.ii) Selection of Candidates will be on the basis of academic qualification. A written examination and oral interview coupled with presentation of ORIGINAL CERTIFICATES.
iii) Entrance Examination and Interview: (Dates will be communicated to candidates)
Admission into the School
Application into all Courses of study is made through the School Approved Application Form and or through Joint admission and Matriculation board (JAMB) for both National Diploma and the Higher National Diploma Programme of the school. Candidates are expected to sit for the selection examination on a specific date announced by the school Authority. Successful candidates are thus communicated on their success and admission after fulfilling the basic entry requirements.Application Form for Admission

Admission is deferrable. However, after completion of registration in the school a newly registered student may defer a semester or course(s) by a written application to the school coordinator. Such deferment is valid only through a written approval by the school coordinator.Registration and Documentation

Note that each new student, on arrival, reports to the assigned Registration Officer with the following
documents for verification:

- A copy of the acceptance letter.
- A letter of identification from the student’s Local Government Area.
- A letter of good conduct. From student’s parent.
- Six (6) recent passport-sized photographs;
- A medical report.
- 2 Rims of A4 Paper Size.
- Original copies of Certificates or original notification of result (statement of result Original Birth Certificate/Declaration of Age.
Late Registration
Any student who fails to register within two weeks of resumption is automatically considered as having lost his offer (in case of new students) and not qualified for normal registration (in case of returning students). The period for late registration is the third week from the first day of the semester, except otherwise decided by the school Management.
Penalty for Late Registration
Late registration attracts a fee as may be decided from time to time by the school management-
Any returning student who fails to register at the expiration of the late registration period shall be advised to defer the semester.
Any student who registers late more than two consecutive times shall be made to face the Student Welfare and Disciplinary Committee for appropriate disciplinary action.
Any student who absconds from lectures without prior written permission by the appropriate authority for one semester shall be considered as self-withdrawal.
Matriculation
Matriculation is, simply a ceremony at which new students are confirmed as bona fide members of the School Community. Every new student is expected to matriculate before his entry into the academic community of the school. At the ceremony, new students are required to take an oath to observe the rules and regulations of the institution. This includes filling a form specially designed for the purpose.
GENERAL NURSING
This School offers a three (3) years basic general nursing training to suitable candidates of not less than 17½ years and not more than 26 years of age.Those wishing to apply must have a minimum of Five credit including English Language, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry & Biology at not more than two Sitting.
Entrance Examination and Interview
Candidates who satisfy the basic entry requirements shall be required to sit for an entrance examination and selection interview thereafter. Only candidates who pass the examination are short-listed to appear for the selection interview. The Selection process will include essay writing followed by oral interview. Candidates selected for admission shall be required to pass a medical examination of fitness.Admission Procedure
Candidates who meet the school requirement would be called for entrance examination for which receipt will be issued. Only successful candidates would be invited for interview which will last for about four days. Final admission depends on vacancies. On registration the following are submitted:a. Confidential Report from the Principal of candidate’s Secondary School.
b. Confidential report from Clergyman/Imam or a Senior Civil servant or a lawyer.
c. Consent to undergo nurse Training from Parent/Guardian/Husband.
d. Acceptance letter to comply with School rules and regulation from the Candidate.
LIST OF MATERIAL STUDENTS ARE TO BRING TO THE SCHOOL AS APPLICABLE
- UNIFORM: Each student shall be responsible for his/her Uniform. On arrival, a sample of the white material and pattern will be shown to you for guidance. Each Female student is required to wear black underwear and black braziers while in uniform and is advice to buy not less than two of each of this material for use.
Please note that:
Pregnancy/Abortion: All unmarried students who become pregnant or commit an abortion at any stage of training will be dismissed from the School. Only change of surnames for females. No change of names for males. No change of name is allowed after indexing.
This course is residential. Successful candidates must live in the Nurses students Hostel; payment of accommodation fee shall be made in that regards.
SCHOOL OF POST BASIC NURSING
Post Basic Programmes Options;

Those who wish to apply for any of the programme must have the following:-
- a) Post Basic Midwifery Programme:
Candidate must also be registered Nurse (RN) with the Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria.
- b) Post Basic Opthalmic Nursing Programme:
Additional Post Basic Diploma/Certificate/other relevant course could be an added advantage.
In Addition to the above, eligible candidates must have five credit passes in SSCE/WASC/NECO or GCE which should include among others, English Language, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry and Biology at not more than two sittings.
- c) Post Basic Aneasthesia Programme:
Candidate must also be registered Nurse (RN) with the Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria.
- d) Post Basic Paediatric Nursing Programme:
Qualification/Registration experience.
Additional Post Basic Diploma/Certificate/Other relevant courses could be an added advantage.
In additional to the above, eligible candidates must have five credit passes in SSCE WASC/NECO or GCE which should include among others, English Language, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry and Biology at not more than two sittings.
Eligible candidates will be requested to sit for a written aptitude test to be followed by an oral
interview.
For the selection interview, candidates are to come along with the originals of all their Certificates, license, evidence of sponsorship, certificates of workshop attended etc.
Pregnancy in Training
Any student who becomes pregnant during training is advised to continue her studies, but could take leave to have her baby and thereafter resume studies. However, the Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria’s rules on demotion to a lower class for twenty-one (21) days absenteeism is applicable.
Accommodation:Accommodation is available on the basis of “First come first served” This is under the Management of “Ahmadu Bello University Agency”. The agency charges N16,000.00 per bed space and N32,000.00 per room. This is subject to changes please.
School of Medical Laboratory Sciences
Special Fellowship of Medical Laboratory Science Council of NigeriaThis is a Thirty Six (36) Months or 3years Course Leading to the award of FMLSCN.
Candidates wishing to apply must be:-
An Associate of Member Medical Laboratory Science Council of Nigeria (AMLSCN) plus a minimum of one (1) year post qualification experience.
Have NYSC discharge or exemption certificate.
Have Current practicing license of the Medical Laboratory Science Council of Nigeria.

COMMUNITY HEALTH OFFICERS (CHO)
Course Duration:This course takes a minimum of two (2) years designated by semester, i.e four (4) semesters, and officers from any of the following categories of Health Workers that have been working in Primary Health Care area are eligible for admission.
Entry Requirements
- Holders of Diploma in Community Health with not less than two (2) years post qualification experience plus, five (5) O-level credits which must include; English Language, Mathematics and Biology/Health Science, chemistry and physics.
Other Requirements Include - Registration and valid practice license.

Point to Note - The programmes shuns at pregnancy during the period of training.
2. Selection is based on outstanding performance at the written and oral interview together with other criteria mentioned earlier.
3. Presentation of ORIGINAL CERTIFICATE during oral interview and submission of two sets of credentials (photocopies) during the interview.
4. Invitation for Entrance Examination and interview including time and venue will be communicated to candidates.
